For the first time since 1988, the US government will no longer commemorate World Aids Day, according to reports.
The state department has directed its employees and grant recipients not to use US government funds to mark the event – which falls annually on 1 December – and not to promote the day publicly. The news was first reported by the journalist Emily Bass and confirmed in an email viewed by the New York Times.
Employees and grantees could still “tout the work” on Aids being done through various programs “to counter this dangerous disease and other infectious diseases around the world”, the email reportedly said. They may also attend events related to the commemoration.
But they should “refrain from publicly promoting World Aids Day through any communication channels, including social media, media engagements, speeches or other public-facing messaging”.

Why celebrate a deadly, willfully acquired disease?
WIINIMG@ Afyer a few hours on defense, I feel like President Trump is going on offense. The National Guard shooting was the end of unrestricted legal immigration, let the Dems run on it.
They already have a month
It just is not necessary any longer, for the US to focus national attention on this (for the most part) now manageable disease.
That first era of panic and mystery ended over 20 years ago, with the introduction of certain medications. It will be up to each patient to continue taking those meds to keep the virus at Undetectable status.
That is part of their personal responsibility.
THIS is what I voted for!!!
“World AIDS Day” - they could be a bit clearer. Pro or anti?
The battle has now moved to fighting "stigma" associated with HIV infection. They want to disparage people if they won't have s3x with AIDS patients. You're a "hater" if you won't.
I'm dead serious.
Commemorate a disease???
“You can’t always get what you want!”
Merely catching it supposed makes you "so courageous."
Man, that's a low bar now.
Not anymore!
The Pope has got it, and so do you
Come on ev’rybody we’ve got quilting to do
Winning!
Seriously.
I was wondering when govt.gov would get around to celebrating a World Herpes Day.
Or World Genital Warts Day, World Gonorrhea Day, World Hepatitis B Day?
All those other folks with those conditions (several of them lifelong) sure must be feeling left out.
That’s the same shame they use on hetero men who won’t have sex with men pretending to be women. It is grossly perverted and sick.
How about we have a World Electricity Commemoration Day? All the brilliant minds that brought us electric power deserve to be honored and commemorated. Those people did a lot more for mankind than the butt forkers and their disease.
Unless you get blood. That’s what killed that kid that Elton John memorialized
Yep, and there is a lot of overlap there. Men who pretend to be women are proportionally much more likely to have HIV/AIDS.
They tell us that infection through blood transfusion is virtually nil these days.
