Lane Kiffin’s decision — will he stay at Ole Miss or accept the LSU head coaching job? — has loomed over the last week of the college football regular season. Kiffin is expected to announce his decision at some point today.
And LSU sources Saturday morning are “very confident” that Kiffin is going to accept the Tigers’ offer to take over, The Athletic has learned.
LSU has offered Kiffin a seven-year contract in the neighborhood of $100 million, sources familiar with the deal told The Athletic earlier this week.
Ole Miss has done everything it can to keep the 50-year-old Kiffin; there is also an emotional component to the decision, as Ole Miss wrapped up its best regular season ever to go 11-1 and assuredly make the College Football Playoff. Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said in a statement last week that the two have had “many pointed and positive conversations,” but Kiffin has kept his thoughts close to the vest. Kiffin was also a top target in the Florida search, but as The Athletic reported Friday morning, the Gators have moved on to other candidates, a sign that Kiffin might have narrowed his decision between the Rebels and the Tigers.
LSU sources believe the lure of taking over a program that has won three national titles under three different head coaches in the past 20 years, along with the potential to physically go toe-to-toe with Alabama and Georgia, will be too tempting for Kiffin to pass up.

LSU is welcome to him. Did they learn nothing with Brian Kelly? These coaches never know when to say ‘No’. I think of Rich Rodriguez, a walk-on at WVU in his student days who eventually became the head coach at WVU and had some good seasons. Michigan comes calling with the big bucks and Rich Rod jumps to Ann Arbor. And flames out. Winds up at the U of Arizona and runs into some sexual scandal and gets fired from there too. And winds up.... back at WVU... where he should have never left!
I can’t find that top tweet- what time was it posted?
Never mind- just found it- literally the same time i posted my reply...

The meeting the Ole Miss chancellor’s home drew interest on a cold, rainy and dark night in Oxford.
At one point, a dark SUV slowed to a crawl out front of the home and a woman emerged from the passenger window, hanging out to snap a shot of vehicles out front.

Funny comments in that thread...
“Apparently Bama and Deboer has not turned out to be a good fit.”
Alabama played one of the worst football games i’ve ever seen a 9-2 Power 5 team play tonight ... they barely eked out a win only because they had slightly more good luck, slightly less bad luck, slightly less ineptitude, slightly less sloppy play, slightly less stupidity, slightly less bad play calling, slightly less stupid penalties, slightly less bad clock management, slightly less turnovers, and slightly less dropped balls than Auburn ...
Well it looks like LSU found their coach. Now let’s see if Deboer goes to Penn State. Arkansas needs a coach and ell the unpaid unsolicited advisors on the message boards were convinced it is Golesh. And it sounds like Golesh might want the Ole Miss job.
Wow, that’s serious business.
Lane Kiffin has told his offensive staff to join him at LSU per @clowfb
