Lane Kiffin’s decision — will he stay at Ole Miss or accept the LSU head coaching job? — has loomed over the last week of the college football regular season. Kiffin is expected to announce his decision at some point today.
And LSU sources Saturday morning are “very confident” that Kiffin is going to accept the Tigers’ offer to take over, The Athletic has learned.
LSU has offered Kiffin a seven-year contract in the neighborhood of $100 million, sources familiar with the deal told The Athletic earlier this week.
Ole Miss has done everything it can to keep the 50-year-old Kiffin; there is also an emotional component to the decision, as Ole Miss wrapped up its best regular season ever to go 11-1 and assuredly make the College Football Playoff. Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said in a statement last week that the two have had “many pointed and positive conversations,” but Kiffin has kept his thoughts close to the vest. Kiffin was also a top target in the Florida search, but as The Athletic reported Friday morning, the Gators have moved on to other candidates, a sign that Kiffin might have narrowed his decision between the Rebels and the Tigers.
LSU sources believe the lure of taking over a program that has won three national titles under three different head coaches in the past 20 years, along with the potential to physically go toe-to-toe with Alabama and Georgia, will be too tempting for Kiffin to pass up.

What a joke...Kiffin is a decent but not great coach that’s not won all that much during his career and benefited from the huge NIL $$$ Ole Miss spent the past two seasons...
If he decides to go to LSU then Ole Miss needs to say “sorry- you can’t coach our team in the SEC title game (if they make it) and/or the CFP”...
A sports team with a minor university attachment? 100 million for a coach, seriously?
Been listening to this crap on the tube for the last 2 days. Who gives a damn? If you’re from down south perhaps it would matter. It’s like a field goal-either he makes it or he doesn’t-it’s not in our hands. We’ve all got other things to worry about other than college football in ‘26.
LSU football brought in just under $108 million- in 2024 alone...
Its unreal- its worse than the reports and waiting on who would be the next Pope....will there be white smoke arising out of Oxford if he stays and black smoke if he leaves????
I’ve been watching the coaching carousel. All sorts of fun rumors. Deboer to Penn State and Kiffin to Alabama. Kiffin is waiting for his announcement to see if Bama loses the Iron Bowl and send Deboer packing. Apparently Bama and Deboer has not turned out to be a good fit.
Not my opinions. Just spreading the rumors.
Ole Miss is #7. They’ll get in the playoffs but Kiffin won’t be there to coach the team.
They can have him.
I’m just happy that Norvell is staying at FSU.
Only thing better is Locksley staying at Maryland, who are currently losing to lowly Michigan State....
Kiffin is a Drama Queen.
Kiffin must be a major sociopath for his ability to continually convince major ADs to believe what he tells them and ignore his past.
Kiffin Should stay at Ole Miss. He’s already coached at Tennessee and USC as a head coach and Alabama as a coordinator. And a stint with the Raiders. He’s achieved success with Ole Miss and should make the most of it.
For whatever reason It seems Maryland cannot fire Locksley. Every season it’s the same - Maryland starts 3 - 0 or 4 - 0 and then the wheels fall off. Locksley has to go.
Maybe Locksley should take the LSU job?!
LOL!
The excuse i heard is they’re going to use the $$$ they would’ve had to pay for the buyout and invest it in NIL deals- but who the hell wants to go play for him at Maryland??? They’re getting pounded 24-7 by a terrible Michigan State team and its only halftime!!!
He’s gone- the meeting with Ole Miss ended about 90 minutes ago....if he was going to stay Kiffin & the president of the school would’ve come out with wide grins and announced he was staying...
Lane Kiffin’s future hangs in doubt after a meeting at the UM chancellor’s home over whether he may continue to coach despite intentions to leave for LSU, sources tell @YahooSports.
Vehicles belonging to Kiffin & AD Keith Carter were seen leaving at 6:45.https://t.co/rKDHmY8JwP pic.twitter.com/b7QYUGJ0PM— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) November 30, 2025
