The Trump administration on Wednesday said it was placing an indefinite pause on immigration from Afghanistan in response to the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington D.C.
The suspected shooter, an Afghan national, immigrated to the U.S. in 2021, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
“Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols,” the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said in a post on the social media platform X.
“The protection and safety of our homeland and of the American people remains our singular focus and mission,” the agency added.
President Trump on Wednesday night ordered his administration to review the cases of individuals from Afghanistan who entered the country after the U.S. withdrawal from the Middle Eastern country in 2021.
The shooting suspect, Rahmanaullah Lakanwal, 29, entered the United States in September 2021 through the program “Operation Allies Welcome,” DHS said Wednesday night. At the time, the Biden administration ordered DHS to help vulnerable Afghans who worked with American troops during the 20-year war in Afghanistan resettle in the U.S. after the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021.

I heard a former female FBI and CIA agent on a show yesterday (can’t remember which one) say that the Biden State Department overrode nearly all of the red flags raised during the vetting process she participated in. She explained that these individuals were initially brought to ME countries like Qatar, Kosovo, and Kuwait, where they were interviewed and vetted. However, once the paperwork reached the State Department, their decisions were overridden. According to her, billions of dollars were spent on the program, and it was essentially a sham.
I wonder if it's possible to find out how many red flags were overridden?
