From what I have read, sharks don’t like the taste of humans. Their attacks are basically them checking out the next meals flavor. As soon as they taste human, they leave but the damage has been done.
One benefit for being bitter, I guess.
Swimming in groups in shark infested waters is like shark bite roulette....

From what I have read, sharks don’t like the taste of humans.

I've only ever heard that said about Great Whites which tend to feed on marine mammals with high body fat. Humans lack the insulating fat layer. The theory is that a GW can instantly "taste" and know "that's not what I'm looking for." Oceanic White Tips will pursue and eat anything.
