Minnesota Democrats have sided with the state’s Somali community despite evidence of widespread Somali fraud of taxpayers’ healthcare programs.
Numerous investigations have uncovered billions in fraud among several of Minnesota’s overly generous welfare schemes. The cases of fraud are astounding. In one case, a group called “Feeding Our Future,” run by Somalis, bilked $250 million from the state. In another case, tens of millions were stolen from the state’s autism treatment program, again by Somalis. And in a third situation, more than $550 million was stolen from Minnesota’s coronavirus pandemic relief program. And these are just a few of the investigations finding massive fraud, much of it tied directly to the state’s large Somali community.
Worse, millions of dollars of this stolen funding appear to have been redirected by Minnesota Somalians into the hands of the African terror group Al-Shabaab.
But as the fraud, investigations, and indictments continue to pile up, many Minnesota Democrats are rushing to support the state’s Somali community.
House DFL Leader Zack Stephenson, for instance, attacked President Donald Trump for suggesting that temporary protected status (TPS) for Somalians should be ended.
“Last night’s announcement illustrates the worst of what Donald Trump does best. His policies are driving up the cost of everything from food to health care and he knows it,” Stephenson railed on Saturday. “But instead of actually trying to solve these problems, Trump tries to change the subject by pitting Minnesotans against one another. Scapegoating our Somali neighbors won’t bring down the cost of groceries. Minnesotans know that the Somali community is part of the fabric of our state. We’ll always stand with our Somali neighbors when shameless politicians like Donald Trump try to use them for their political purposes.”

Minnesota Somali Abdifatah Yusuf was found guilty in August 2025 of bilking the Medicaid program out of over $7.2 million through his personal care assistant (PCA) agency, Promise Health Services, LLC.
Reports also suggest that some of the money stolen through various welfare fraud schemes in Minnesota may have been routed to the terror group al-Shabaab in Somalia.
In November 2025, a Hennepin County judge controversially overturned the jury’s guilty verdict against Yusuf, citing insufficient direct evidence that he knew fraud was occurring. The Minnesota Attorney General’s office has appealed this ruling.
Details of the case and wider fraud
The Scheme: Abdifatah Yusuf’s agency, Promise Health Services, LLC, claimed to provide millions in Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) to Medicaid recipients but lacked a physical office and operated out of a mailbox for years.
Jury Verdict: In August 2025, a jury found Yusuf guilty of six counts of aiding and abetting theft by swindle (over $35,000) and found aggravating factors to support an enhanced sentence.
Judge’s Decision: In November 2025, Hennepin County Judge Sarah West dismissed the jury’s verdict against Yusuf, arguing there was not enough direct evidence linking him to the fraudulent activity within his company.
Wider Context: Federal prosecutors in Minnesota are investigating widespread welfare fraud in the Somali community, including other fraud cases involving housing stabilization and pandemic child nutrition programs. Sources suggest Minnesota taxpayers could be one of the largest funders of al-Shabaab due to these schemes.
Political Reaction: Minnesota GOP lawmakers have pushed for a federal fraud investigation and alleged a terrorist link. Critics claim Minnesota leaders have been slow to address the issue, fearing backlash from the state’s Somali-American voting block.
Other Related Cases: The Yusuf case is one of several recent fraud cases. In August 2023, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office charged five people with $9.5 million in Medicaid fraud involving a PCA company called MN Professional.

By the Democrats definition Somalis make great citizens. They’re not worried about little things like the US constitution, laws, morality, etc. They are dependent on government. They WANT to be dependent on government. They have no work ethic. They have no interest in assimilating into the American culture, quite to the contrary they want to force their third world garbage culture on as many US citizens as they can. Their view of culture overlaps with what the Democrats want for the USA. In short, there’re perfect democrats citizens.
And their kids are forming gangs, and taking on the Mexican gangs that have been here for a while.
Except for the occasional domestic call, ALL violent crime here is gang related.
