All of whom supply their familes with an income. Dead males means some family no longer has an income and will become destitute, homeless and could starve to death as China has no safety nets as the the West does.
That happening, on a scale of a Taiwan invasion, means 500,000 families, at the minimum, will suffer economic disaster. Which will threaten the stability of the CCP to rule. China, despite the propaganda, cannot afford to go to war from that perspective alone.
