My mom was mopping the kitchen floor when the assassination news broke
on the radio. She was three months pregnant with me at the time.
Grandma called to make sure mom didn’t get too upset.
I, being in my ‘womb cocoon’, had no idea that anything abnormal was afoot.

Right after the announcement that the president had died came over the intercom the school sent us all home immediately as soon as they could get the busses lined up. School didn’t start back up again until after Thanksgiving. Everyone just sat at home and watched the TV all day.

My mother parked outside the post office and let me listen on the radio while she went inside. She knew it was historical, but she was never a Kennedy voter. No tears in my family.
