I do not know if want to be as fast as China. It is one thing for a quickly built high-rise or bridge to suffer a catastrophic failure, quite another for a nuke plant, even a thorium one.

That’s problem with Trump bragging about “drill baby drill”. How about “build baby build” new refineries? Where are new nuclear reactors? We have the majority in this admin just like his first term and we should be doing bigger things

They are installing a micro nuclear reactor at the University of Illinois for heating the campus.
IIRC, the permitting process started in 2000, and they expect it to be operational in 2030.
