Like Sheldon Cooper said, Las Vegas is a place where people can go to forget their problems and replace them with new problems like alcoholism, a gambling addiction, and sexually transmitted diseases.
It always said that.
Vegas was where the mundane everyday things you were used to spending money on were cheap, which was enticing and made for a fun, carefree mood, while the Casinos charmingly seduced you with the glamour, fun, and wild things that made them all their money.
That was a vacation experience, you still spent all your vacation money but felt as though you had an adventurous good time and a cheap vacation where the spending was voluntary and you had done something totally different from what you spent your money on at home, and you also had the exciting roller coaster chance to make a big win and come home rich, or at least roughly even.
When you sat at the 21 table, you could socialize with the other folks sitting at the table. It was entertainment.
“No different if it had come from a printed source.”
I can scan a printed article in 15 seconds and decide if it is worth reading. And if I POST an article, I can post 300-400 words giving the flavor of the article on FR so only those interested will check it out.
Video? One can listen for 3-4 minutes before realizing it is clickbait garbage from an idiot.
Vegas now faces serious challenges because gambling is legal in so many places. In the 60s, if someone wanted to gamble, it was Vegas. Now? There are a half dozen Indian casinos within 75 miles of me.
Without that gambling income, the hotels can’t make tons of cash. And without the Mafia laundering money, they lose even more. So yeah, Vegas is no longer a good deal for just having fun for cheap!
Well whatever, I thought she did a very good job of describing Vegas in 2025.
The Asian “whales” now go to Macau.
Nope. Too late - you're on THE LIST.
Apparently the Sphere, which charges $129 to see The Wizard of Oz, and charges over $600 dollars to see the Eagles (who always sell out 17,000 seats) is even losing money. I personally couldn’t believe the prices in Vegas, $16 for 12oz Coors light bottle at Gordon Ramsey Fish n Chips. And the Fish wasn’t that great either. $55 a night resort fees, $25 and up a night parking after you’ve already paid for room n resort fees. It’s really outrageous. Our breakfast for 2 was $100 for standard eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast with coffee.
I want to go back to Vegas, but it will only be my central point to drive and visit Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Mt. Charleston and hopefully Zion. I’ll stay on the strip just for the experience but I’ll be eating at In n Out and grabbing a beer from a grocery. That place is just full of legal crooks.
Oh well I'm on the "list", maybe when my judgement comes from Christ, I will know what to say.
The Canadian casino in Niagara Falls ON is far worse in that regard than the one in Niagara Falls NY...at least it was. I haven’t been in a while. The price on the buffet in NY went way up from ~2010 to 2020.
“I’m offended that you are offended “.
