My only quibble with your otherwise excellent post is the notion that the shift is “leftward”.
The political spectrum is a little more complex than that.
I would say that young people don’t like the middle that defends the status quo—that does not make them “left” or “right”. They want radical change in some direction—and will support candidates that offer it to them.
The big institutions have failed them—nothing left to save.
They will not be intimidated by name calling or other attempts by their elders to frame the debate or gatekeep or curate.
is the notion that the shift is “leftward”.

I’m quoting Rassmussen on this.
He’s looking at the entire electorate. What he’s seeing is the normalization of “socialism” among younger people — especially in the Democrat Party.
Democrat numbers are increased every year by the educational system that normalizes socialism. again the genius of the communists in the educational system is to teach moral spiritual and practical incompetence —that is, to set the kiddies up for failure and then give them a built in cause and solution for their failure. The reason for their failure is capitalism and the solution for their failure is socialism.
Among young Republicans, there is something different. They want order brought back to the country. To them, Trump is not doing enough fast enough.
Left and right are ok with AI running government.
Both left and right cannot afford housing. The median age for first home buyers is now 40. That’s up 12 years since about 1990. Affordability is most pronounced in blue states.
Women—especially liberal women are a special case. They voted overwhelmingly for Mandami in NYC. That city is stacked high with single women in their 30’s and 40’s who are prosperous and alone. Corporations love them. They are the real worker bees of that city—as they are in most big cities. And they hate their lives. They want to burn it all down. Hence the Mandami vote. wtf? They were schooled to think that it was ok to slut around in their 20’s while they advanced their careers. No one told them that they were at their most desirable before the age of 25. No one told them that their eggs were literally at their brightest and most fertile before the age of 25. That after 25, the quality of their eggs and their fertility declined. No one told them that after age 30 their chances of getting married, settling down and having a family diminished not to nothing—but significantly.
Of course the social sciences and liberal arts degrees in colleges produce young men who are not very good mates for women.
