I still remember the old 80s Detroit GP races; those were exciting, as compared to many recent city GPs. But LV is a good one.

And that it was (qualies, anyway). It makes the processional less boring if the cars are at least squirming through the bends. It reminds me of the olden days when they deliberately slid through the corners.

Not that long ago someone suggested F1 use sprinklers and randomly water the tracks to make the racing less boring. Watching today's qualies, I'm not sure it wouldn't be better than all the artificial crap they keep pushing on the sport; DRS, mandatory pit stops, disinte-Pirellis, time-limited battery power, etc. In fact, a week or so ago the FIA was floating the idea of two mandatory pit stops per event. Which is reinforcing failure with failure.

What they really need is two laps per set of tires. 50-lap race, 24 mandatory pit stops. If all they're considering is the number of overtakes and not the quality, why not maximize that and require a stop every two laps? It definitely would give them loads of overtakes. One lap to get 'em hot, one lap to burn 'em down. It's amplificare ad absurdum.

It also would make all that pitstop equipment more cost-effective.
