A person of interest was taken into custody after a 26-year-old woman was set on fire while riding a busy Chicago Transit Authority train in the city's popular Loop, police said.
Police did not offer additional information on the person of interest, but noted an investigation into the case "remains ongoing."
The 26-year-old was riding a Blue Line train just before 9:30 p.m. Monday when police said she got into an argument with a man believed to be about 45 years old.
The man ultimately poured liquid on the woman and ignited it, setting her on fire, authorities said.
The train came to a stop at the Clark and Lake stop and the man fled the scene as the woman stumbled out of the car and collapsed.
She was taken by the Chicago Fire Department to a nearby hospital with "severe burns about the body." She was last listed in critical condition.
According to police, the fire was out by the time authorities arrived.
A witness described the aftermath of the harrowing event, saying the woman appeared to be in a "really bad state."

So mostly peaceful then.
got to love those accurate descriptions of the perp
No description is a full description. It’s not the American people who are stupid, in spite of what the media and radicals think.
Someone on one of the Chicago cops’ forums posted that the suspect is a black man, age 45-50.
Something happened to someone
Yup. That says it all. It’s NOT a white person, to say the least.
isn’t throwing acid and setting women on fire a mooselimb thing?
So the perp was carrying enough flammable liquid, and an ignition source, to put the female victim into critical condition. How about allocating a subway car at the front for the victim’s demographics, and another subway car at the back for the perp’s demographics?
In all seriousness, prayers to the victim's family.
I think this was premeditated. The man had the liquid and the lighter aand was just looking foran excuse to set a woman on fire. A person might carry a weaapon gun or knife for protection but to carry a flammable liquid and flame is not for defense...it was meant for offense.
