Senate Majority Leader John Thune finally got the eight Democrats/Independents he needed to vote in favor of a Continuing Resolution that will allow the government to reopen. Tonight’s vote was just one step — though a critically important one — in a process that could take several days to play out. Among other things, the CR is different from the one that passed the House on September 19 so the House will have to vote on it again.

Useless as tits on a bull.

That’s the Rand legacy.

There’s no difference between the weasel rand paul and mitt Romney IMO.

Here's a highlight clip of Ran Paul's twelve hour fillabuster of John Brennan's confirmation to CIA director in 2013.

Show me one of Romney doing anything similar..I'll wait

Maybe even a sliding number like four or five more than the number of senators in the majority party.

“I’ve been fighting this battle for 15 years… “

Unsuccessfully.

I agree with him on this, but he is a failure. He’s accomplished nothing. He’s had 15 years to actually convince others in the Senate to agree with him, and he hasn’t. Get someone who’s actually effective. He’s not it.

Well, we can’t even fix fixed elections and so they will get their majority and then they will kill the filibuster and we are done for anyway.
And that seems to be the thing everyone keeps forgetting.

When the democrats have control, they WILL nuke the filibuster themselves.

SO what harm is there in us doing it and preventing them from holding the country hostage again anyways.

And besides, can’t it be reinstated again later?
********
True. And are we really so unsure about our ability to win honest elections with a prosperity oriented platform that we need hide in fear behind the fillibuster? If so, we deserve to lose.

I know some will disagree with me on this. But it’s kind of like Senator McCarthy. Was he right about the Communists? Yes.

But the way he went about it, did more harm than good in the end.

He’s accomplished nothing.

Meh...he's kept his word to fight for fiscal discipline, something the feckless GOP pays lip service to. Not his fault DC is corrupt beyond redemption.

Rand Paul uses ribbed condoms—inside out, so he gets the pleasure.

Rand Paul says no, just to be obstinate. He has no principles.

Grandstanding. John Brennan got confirmed, didn’t he? Rand just want to say no and he’s mad now because Trump is fed up with his antics and has shown Rand’s true character. NO NO NO!
He’s like a baby in a crib with no toys.

Ronald Reagan, “I am not worried about the deficit. It is big enough to take care of itself,”
Skating away on the thin ice of a new day.

No they didn’t vote to reopen the government. Details matter. This makes 3 misleading headlines on one page.

Why on earth is anything paid to widows of congressmen by the taxpayers? Surely the reps had life insurance benefits as a member of the House. $174,000 is their annual salary, is it not?

For fun - find and read: The Zero Game by Brad Meltzer. Congressional staff who work in APPROPRIATIONS, inserting projects into bills that are never read and passed and staff betting/gambling if the erroneous inserts will be noticed...
Only a few staff members know WHO the other members are in the game and they get pages to deliver the anonymous notes/bets to certain offices. The notes are all in code so each member knows the code and no one will know they are actually the $$$ that are bet. Intriguing!!

Kind of confusing but I THINK that’s the gist of the plot. Just started reading it and not hard to believe it could be real life!

👍. I’ve called Shaheen every day since the shutdown. Guess she finally got the message. I think she wanted to fly home and was worried about her flight. She doesn’t give a crap about military pay, food stamps, or anybody put out by the shutdown. But keeping her in Washington was a bridge too far.
