Nov 9, 2000 I created my first & only account on FR, after a few years of merely lurking. The urge to post grew too strong to resist joining. Easily the best www-related decision I've ever made!
My sister Mollynme discovered FR first and alerted me to it. (She succumbed to cancer 8-1/2 yrs ago).
Unfortunately, today I learned of the passing of another Freeper who was with me and 8 or 10 others from the Fall of 2000 until at least 2006, in a faithful group who engaged in street corner activism, each of us making our own signs/posters: Former residents of Johnstown CO - WeldGOPHardline & his wife FireEngineRed (she had bright red hair) - moved out of state a few years ago, and her health later went seriously downhill. She just died this morning. How sad it happened on my 25 FRanniversary.
I guess the lesson here is that Freepers get old & sick too, just like everyone else.
I just read the rest of your message on the thread. I don’t remember ever organizing a FReep, but I did attend a couple up in Longmont, one in Ft. Collins, and one at Buckley AFB.
But a year later after 9/11, these events were all official "Freeps" to counter the Dark Side of the street - the alleged "Pacifists" - who were all mega-hypocrites, as they never once protested a military action carried out by a Dem Pres such as Clinton or Obama, but ALWAYS railed against any use of force by RR or GHWB or GWB.
I rubbed shoulders w/ FiveToes / Tom Buchanan, WeldGOPHardline, FireEngineRed, SoftEngine, and a lot of VFW post members on a weekly basis. Freeps were in Ft Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Longmont, and military posts from Cheyenne to Denver, such as Warren AFB, Buckley AFB, and at least one other.
That wasn’t me. I never organized. Just my house.
