Starlink confirmed its decision early on 29 October 2025 through an announcement on X (formerly Twitter). The company wrote: 'For those impacted by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and the Bahamas, Starlink service is now free through the end of November to help with response and recovery efforts'.
Hurricane Melissa, with winds exceeding 165 mph, caused severe damage to homes, roads, and network infrastructure. Elon Musk's Starlink responded quickly, as it has in past crises such as Hurricane Helene in the US in 2024, when similar aid was offered.

What a monster... Between he and Trump they probably have given more to the needy than all Democraps om Earth combined.

Good for Elon... on so many levels. I'll bet he's debating saving the Chinese stranded in space. Do we need someone 'above it all'? Maybe. Maybe not. I'm not sure either.
I watch Flightradar24 on a regular basis. The only aircraft flying around Jamaica I’ve seen are U.S (Blackhawks and Chinooks). I decided to look just before posting this and a Canadian Globemaster just took off from Kingston so apparently Canada is helping, too.
Interesting. Yes the photos I’ve seen look like military planes.
