Crowe shows us why he’s one of the last great movie stars as well as a brilliant performer, settling into the high-powered character actor phase of his career. Like Gene Hackman in his greatest ’80s and ’90s performances, Crowe has such a regular-guy energy that on those rare occasions when Göring is thwarted or disappointed and we get a glimpse of his capacity for overwhelming violence, it somehow comes as an unsetting surprise within the context of the scene, even though we know the man’s a killer.

Haven’t seen that yet. I see the movie for dramatic and cinematic reasons has it crash in the ocean and a Hawaiian rescuing the pilot from the water, but he landed on a red dirt field. There are photos.
But the story there is the treachery and the loyalty heroism of the Hawaiians. Some jumped into a canoe and went to Kauai for help. I think one was decorated for his action.
As demonstrated by the worship of Che Guevara on the Left.
All of that is good context.
One other interesting detail is not there—and that is exactly how the government determined who was of Japanese ancestry and where they were.
There was total silence for decades on this topic—as far as I can tell nobody even asked the question much less answered it.

The Japanese internment is one of the worst government overreaches by one of the worst leftists presidents. You should hold it up as a warning of what happens when liberals run the country, not defend it.

Of the 120,000 Japanese interned, a large majority, about 80,000 were US citizens, born in the US. Not illegals, not immigrants, US citizens who lost their homes and businesses and were dragged out into desert camps. It is not equivalent to rounding up illegal Venezuelans.

Approx 1,200 Italians were interned, almost entirely Italian citizens. Estimates are about a dozen Italian-American citizens were interned, mostly by accident. No one talks about it because it was not a big deal, not a violation of the constitution. Totally normal during war time. This is the correct comparison to your Venezuela hypothetical.
There is to reason to defend Roosevelt. The whole thing was big government abuse at its worst. The most you might do is have some understanding for why Roosevelt overreacted given the anger and horror about Pearl Harbor, but it is wrong to defend it.
It would be fun for Russell Crowe to get the Oscar, but only if he doesn’t lose any weight between now and the ceremony. Field Marshall’s uniform optional.

I watched a clip on YouTube where Crowe’s Goering is his jail cell explaining the attraction of Hitler and he basically says “he promised to return to our former glory...he made us feel German again”. I have no idea if Goering said this or not. But it made we wonder if that dialogue was meant as a subtle attack on Trump.
