With a cane in hand guiding her every step, former Miss Hawaii Cheryl Bartlett slowly walks along the garden of palms and hinahina she and her husband, Rogerio Araujo, grew together outside of their Makiki apartment.

“This is Roger’s pride and joy,” Bartlett said while pointing to the line of potted plants, which has given her some comfort after Araujo was taken by ICE agents last Tuesday.

“That morning is the last morning I saw him,” a whimpering Bartlett added. “Someone is trying to rip the bond, it’s very painful, and that someone is my own country.”

A native of Brazil, 57-year-old Araujo has been living on Oahu for several decades.

Married to an American and here for several decades and yet has no valid green card/papers?

Does anyone want to guess what bared him from getting legal status?

Boo F-ing Hooo.

We will be nice enough to open the gate as we drop kick his ass out of the USA.

Why didn’t you take steps to get him legal? He was married to you. As a US Citizen you could have gotten him a green card. Why the hell didn’t you?

You knew the law. You simply refused to obey it. Now you’re whining that there are consequences.

Surely, after 17 years of Gubmint administrative cockups (alleged), INS could throw this nice lady a bone/exemption.

Well, too bad. That was the democratically expressed will of the people in Hawaii.

I happen to believe that the union is voluntary and each state is only bound by its voluntary act of ratifying the constitution (as James Madison said in federalist #39) and therefore has the constitutional right to unilaterally secede...but that is not what the federal government believes. I’d be perfectly happy to let Hawaii go if that’s what the people there wanted.

Submit Application: Pay the filing fee, which is currently $760.
Attend Interview: Applicants will be interviewed by USCIS to verify eligibility.
Take Oath of Allegiance: Upon approval, applicants must take an oath to become U.S. citizens.

If “clerical errors” both sides should have records of that!
My guess he didn’t bother, didn’t think it was necessary who would know. My question is how did he get a SSN to pay his taxes? If he paid any, and if the SSN he got to do that is fraudulent which it is there’s another felony!
