Checking my home IP would be useless since it's a random address chosen by my VPN.
I love the bluster and bravado of y'all on this forum about how "you can take Windows 7 from my cold, dead hands." ... exactly because y'all think you're "giving it to the man" by not upgrading.
That is a complete load of horseshit I don't think any such thing. I have an old computer that won't support anything past Win 7 and I can't afford a new one.
Into what?
Oddly enough I’ve been getting pop ups saying I just got an update a few minutes after I start up. Always two identical pop ups at the same time. That started a few months ago.
I didn’t turn anything on to get them, they don’t update anything and I can’t find a way to shut them off. Oh, well, two clicks and they’re gone.
On reddit at r/techsupport the moderator tells people they do not support Windows 10 questions there and that “you must immediately upgrade to Windows 11”.
I figure because of all the problems with Windows 11 he wants to keep the sub reddit blog running...
Hopefully there will be 3rd party software that can remove / block all the spying and encrypting on 11 & the coming 12.
Otherwise I would feel safer in Linux Mint.
I would need to replace several programs as they do not run natively on Linux or use wine or something similar.
Windows 10 will be around several more years before Microsoft forces popular programs to not support it. When the web browsers do then it is time to switch.
VirtualBox works on Linux from what I read. This means you can run those Windows only programs on a Windows 10 install inside VirtualBox.
You should consider Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 that will be supported until 01/01/2032.

#141 You can buy a used pc from Amazon. Inexpensive.
I bought a 2018 HP z240 SFF pc for my sister for $135 in march 2024. It was $3,200 when new and the reviews came out. Cannot upgrade to 11 unless you use Rufus to bypass Microsoft requirements. We have no desire to upgrade.
Below are Windows 11 compatible. You can still run Windows 10 on them and when you decide to go to Windows 11 you have the license.

How to get the FREE extended support for 1 year

If you had to buy a license they are cheap. Google: Windows 10 or 11 license
They are from about $20 to $35 from Groupon and Walmart etc.
Download Windows from Microsoft. Do so before Microsoft only allows 11.
