“Start believing they are who they say they are.”

The ranting German with the funny moustache was serious.

Think of yourselves as Jews in 1932 Germany.

Lower it to 56 votes. 56% of the chamber. Or 58 votes, or 55. Only for Clean CRs in the future.

The obvious thing to do would be to keep the filibuster, but actually force people to filibuster.

That was going to be my question. I’d love to hear opinions because I don’t know enough to have one.

I think this is what the Dems want. Keep everyone from going home for Thanksgiving then the country will hate Trump. These evil people do not consider us at all. We are just pawns on their chessboard. We need to find a better way.

A good idea but just revert the filibuster to what it was in the past - make the filibustering person/party talk and talk and talk 24/7.

Make those old decrepit Democrats work for the filibuster.

No way they could hold out for more than a few days before they collapse, or get tripped up by a parliamentary maneuver.

Old school filibuster, fair and square.

This “filibuster” is DEI - didn’t earn it.

Nothing is moving anymore. One side of the other is going to end it soon. May as well be us.

Yes, I do think it is part of the Dems strategy to get the Republicans to give up the filibuster.

Just about guaranteed Democrats will do it if they get back in power.

Sure, the Republicans could change the rules to eliminate the filibuster only for this one thing, but then a Democrat majority could change the rules to eliminate it entirely if they wanted.

Of course, the Democrats could vote to eliminate the filibuster anyway, regardless of what the GOP does right now. schumer tried to do it but didn't have the votes because Sinema and Manchin refused. I suspect they'll try to eliminate it again next time they have the majority and the Presidency, regardless of what the GOP does now.

The filibuster rule has historically been bypassed many times before. Stop pretending otherwise. This is America’s last chance to peacefully right the ship and republicans are squandering yet another Trump Presidency.

The party of political violence and communism, the party of AOC and Mundami, would never hesitate to overturn any rule or break any law to further their cause, the destruction of America. They cannot be allowed to regain power. That must be the goal or America is finished. Does the republican party share that goal?

The progressives must be destroyed, obliterated.

When they are all rendered ineffective there is no need to fear the lack of a filibuster.

Probably, but given the facts it does not matter in the least, if the republicans don’t remove it, the democrats will nest time they are in power. They have already broken ALL the other precedents and laws during the Biden regime in their avarice hunger for absolute power to rule.

Hairy Reid is associated with the “nuclear option” because, in 2013, he used it to change Senate rules to end filibusters for most executive and judicial nominations, reducing the required votes from 60 to a simple majority. He justified this action due to what he saw as partisan obstruction hindering the Senate’s basic functions, stating the institution needed to adapt to remain effective. This 2013 precedent was later extended in 2017 by Republicans to include Supreme Court nominations.

Can’t go wrong acting like democrats. R-right?

Consider what the now semi-communist dems would do if they abolished the filibuster. They might do so anyhow, because the Wokistas thing their revolutionary moment is at hand. But it’s quite possible that part of their plan is to goad Trump, who knows his window of opportunity is closing fasr, to do the deed.

The filibuster has persisted because both sides are terrified of what the other would do if unchecked.

This has always been an asymmetrical calculation, however. It is much easier to destroy than to build. The left seeks the overthrow of the traditional America, right down to the founding principles. We are ultimately trying to preserve a free society, and this imposes limits. The left is bent on destruction and recognizes no limits. The filibuster can be frustrating, but it is ultimately a conservative arrangement. Radical changes should not be made suddenly and without the development of a broad consensus.

Drain the swamp? Fine. Hang tough on the budget and blame the democrat minority for the filibuster that shut so much down.

Donks appear close to caving...so, don’t kill the filibuster yet....

..unless we’re POSITIVE Donks would eliminate as soon as they pull the triple play. ...senate, house , WH.

We suspect current Donks WOULD kill the filibuster as they nearly did last term. Machin & Synema saved it and they have no such reasonable senators on the horizon. When will Donks again gain all 3 branches ? A long while we hope, but wishful thinking .

IF Rs kill the filibuster, legislation must be ready, codified and signed into law damn quick. And how is it made permanent ? Will RINOs inhibit such legislation ?

What could be accomplished ? Myriad issues ranging from Voter ID, balanced budgets, term limits, no bail, gender identity and most of Trumps executive orders. Again, would RINOs support any or all ?

Some GOPers act as if the Democrats play fair. Their attitude is “if we do away with the filibuster, then that gives the Dems the opportunity to use it when they get the majority, so we MUST keep the filibuster in place so as not to anger the Dems.”

What these idiots ignore is the Dems have already tried to nuke the filibuster (failed thanks to Sinema and Manchin), but the next time they get the majority they will not fail. The filibuster will be nuked on Day One.

GOP might as well do away with the filibuster now and do what is right for the nation. THAT will help them in the mid-terms.

If they filibuster remains, Dems will again shut down the government ahead of the 2026 midterms and blame will accrue to the GOP as it always does and the leftist voter base will again be energized.
