Indeed. "FWIW" is quite the understatement. For the thread record:

They were right.

I recommend reading the ENTIRE piece. There is a LOT more. In short, the judges (yes, plural) have a stranglehold on that community.

IMHO, the following spells out one alternative for the families:

The same system that routinely hands down decades-long sentences for lesser crimes decided Jesse’s future mattered more than the futures of the girls he allegedly brutalized.

And if I was a father of one of the victims, I'd throw my own future away to save the town from these criminals for my children. Just sayin'.
