They hated him because he wasn’t a rat that came from the swamp. Trump is self made . They can’t control him or blackmail him. He has genuine support as a person rather than just another party member. It drives them insane.

They didn’t fall for it. They had enough connections to know it was fake.

I was one of George Bush's most loyal and enthusiastic supporters until I realized that he had no intention of protecting the USA from massive unchecked illegal immigration--in violation of his Oath of Office to uphold US law.
Thereafter, I recognized other failings, and my support waned until it became nonexistent.
My regard for Dick Cheney similarly fell from very high to nonexistent.
