Yes. All the ‘stans’ except Pakistan and Afghanistan were former Soviet Republics, and the Soviets tried to take Afghanistan. The Soviets also had good relations with Pakistan until the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, when Pakistan then became a staging ground for the mujahedin. Complex Geo political considerations over there. I’m assuming Trump is using this as some additional form of leverage against Putin.

Suffix -stan comes from the Persian word for “land,” “place,” or “country”.
There are many more stans - Hindustan, Rajasthan, Baluchistan, Khuzestan, Lurestan, Larestan, Kurdistan, Nuristan, Baltistan, ...

Mostly administrative units of Asian countries under some historical influence of Persia.

So Hindustan = land populated by Hindus=India!
Since there are many tribes in Asia, there are many, many -stans!

Rare earth minerals abound in that area of Asia. And the countries have limited ability to mine them.
