Ditto. When we lived in CA someone approached our Assistant Pastor in the church parking lot in a nice car. He asked for money. Pastor told him that wasn’t going to happen when he noticed cartons of cigarettes in the back seat.
Our church now is located well into an old neighborhood and most gimmedats don’t know it’s there. We don’t get harassed much.

When my dear friend was in high school she worked in a Christian book store. A young man came in often and always waited in her line to check out.
He was a young minister, they married the weekend she graduated, and spent over 50 years together before he died three years ago.
He was an excellent minister; we miss. Him every day.
Some time at the sliding-door hotel would get her three squares a day.
I remember going to deliver some Thanksgiving baskets one year and the people at the place we visited were smoking like chimneys.
And then when we got ready to leave, they gave us the puppy dog eyes and tone of voice of a beaten down martyr, acting as if it they didn’t get the basket and free food, they wouldn’t be able to have a Thanksgiving meal at all, they’d be starving.
Not a one of us believed it.
Give that thing a loin cloth, a spear and a shield, and you would think it was the year one million BC.

I had a mental image of helping out some poor guy on SNAP. If he showed me his actual SNAP card at the grocery store, I’d help him by some groceries.
Well! Count on these knuckleheads to ruin everything. It’s because of these idiots that we can’t have nice things or live a normal life. In reality, I’ll be lucky to make it out the grocery store alive with these people running around!
The government was proposing to make able-bodied people work to get their SNAP benefits. They said a part-time job is sufficient, apparently realizing that the current job market is total rat wee. I wonder what happened to that proposal.
