I guess it is not clear what India has to gain by meeting with Trump.

Numbers: India 2024 trade surplus with US $42 Billion. India GDP 2024 $4.1T. GDP growth is about 5%/yr.

The US surplus is 1% of GDP and they grow that GDP 5%/yr. This is, yes, insignificant.

Times have changed. There is no clout there. Turn off all imports from India (100%) to the US and it would, for just 1 year, erase 1% of India GDP growth, making it 4%. That number would return to 5% the next year since there is no further trade surplus with the US for the US to shut off.
