His early albums, up to
Born to Run were mostly fun story telling songs that had imaginative lyrics and a full, rocking sound. Then he must have determined to become the conscience of America and his music started to become boring and preachy. Who wants that besides the mentally ill leftists?
He seemed to believe he was a new Woody Guthrie without understanding that Guthrie sucked.

Greetings from Asbury Park and
The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle were great rock-and-roll throwback albums that bucked the trend of over-produced hi-art-grasping pop music prductions of the mid to late seventies... think YES or ELP .... Springsteen was a throwback to the days of r-and-r as fun and rebellious ... I liked them.. Yes even
Born to Run had some great tracks -
Tenth Avenue Freezeout.... Then a down until
Born in the USA...
I saw him in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, in 1985 on the Born-in-the-USA tour and I have to say it was one of the best concerts I ever attended (my Swedish girlfriend was entirely smitten and afterwards loved all things Springsteen). It was at the soccer stadium and I swear the crowd was so into it everyone dancing and jumping around the stands were literally swaying. But that was 1985 and today is today....
