People who spoil votes shouldn't get State benefits says Laois Fine Gael Councillor [Ireland presidential election]

A Laois Fine Gael Councillor said he believed people who spoiled their vote shouldn’t be entitled to State benefits.

Councillor John King made the comment at the Laois Presidential Election Count Center in Scoil Chríost Rí (Christ the King School) in Portlaoise this morning.

In Laois, more than one in ten voters chose to spoil their vote rather than select any of the candidates on the paper. In total there were 4,156 spoiled votes, representing 14.6 percent of the Laois vote.

“I am disappointed with the spoiled votes because our forefathers fought to get those votes,” Councillor King said in the count center this morning.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

So now we have a member of a major party in Ireland openly confessing that there is no secret ballot in Irish elections.

JFTR, Fine Gael is pronounced “Finna Gale” or “Finna Gwayle” (depending on what part of the country one is from), Laois is pronounced “Leash” and Portlaoise is pronounced “Port Leesha”.

Anyone know why ?

I’ll assume because officials have done nothing to stop immigration to save their Irish heritage.

Perhaps an Irish or UK or North Ireland flag on the ballot, if fanatic North Ireland rebellion hold-overs..

If “immigrants”, then because a cross (or cross on a flag) is on “their Muslim ballot”.

Basically it’s any ballot that does not give a clear vote for the listed (pre-approved by the state) candidates.

Unlike Australia, Ireland does not have mandatory voting.

A spoiled ballot indicates that no candidates meet minimum requirements, and communicates a lot more to government and the people than simply not voting.

This sounds like an attempt at forced speech, where there is a bad consequence from the state for refuzing to say something you do not believe.

The people aren’t given a choice of who to vote for. All the candidates were forced upon them.

They were writing things on the ballot. One person wrote she was only 10 years old. Referring to the little girl that was raped.

Chicago has a history of spoiled votes. Insiders in the election’s department punch or put an X beside a second candidate, invalidating the voter’s original selection.

In the Bush/Gore election, insiders used nails to punch through stacks of ballots for Gore. Ballots that already had Gore selected didn’t change. Ballots that had Bush selected were all invalidated with two candidates selected. The ballots at the bottom of the stack ended up with “dimpled” chads.

So if no candidate gets the requisite number of votes (or spoiled votes exceed a threshold), what happens?

Post 6 sort of addresses it. “We had X spoiled ballots in the last election. Voters were dissatisfied with the candidates. We plan to address it by doing Y and Z.”

Is that all?

Well, it’s rigged by law there; if one does not have the backing of at least twenty members of the Oireachtas (parliament) or of least four city or county councils, one cannot even run for president. Any write-in is considered a spoiled ballot, by that definition.
