Mamdani’s victory would signal seismic shift in national politics and test for socialist movement
Politico ^ | July 2025 | Jason Beeferman

As mayor, Mamdani would wield power over a $115 billion budget and more than 300,000 employees, run the nation’s largest police force and immediately be tasked with plowing snow and filling potholes. He would also occupy the greatest bully pulpit in the economic capital of the world’s largest economy…

“It would be seismic,” said Grace Mausser, co-chair of the city’s chapter of the DSA, which plays a key role in Mamdani’s bid. “Having the largest city in the country have a socialist mayor would send an extremely powerful and hopefully empowering message to other socialists and politicians and groups fighting for working class interests across the country.”

You can always shut down the tunnels and bridges, but poor Nassau County has the LI Expressway to deal with fleeing Manhattanites.

We already have failing socialism here aka social security, medicare, commie care, and graduated income tax.

I include the graduated income tax because it’s what allows the spending to get out of control. More people would be complaining about spending if they actually had to pay for it.

It will literally not show anything seismic on a national level, it’s basically an illustration of the desperation of the far left in the bluest district of the United States and the willingness to vote in extremist as their party continues to weaken

This guy is basically a used car salesman, and stupid leftist always fall for used car salesman

Too many people are missing the bigger picture here. Yes, Mamdani is a socialist. But so is Bernie Sanders. So that’s nothing new.

What’s new is that a Muslim is about to take control of a US city that was attacked by Muslims on 9/11. This will be a HUGE propaganda victory for Islam.

But hey, no problem. At least Sliwa will get to prance in front of the camera's again wearing his red beret.

Is Joe Franklin still around? Perfect venue for Sliwa.

NYC Mayors go nowhere. It will be the end of Mandami’s political career. Just ask Giuliani and Bloomberg, but at least they had businesses and a law career to go back to. This little grinning turd will have to hope for a teaching gig.

.....

Bigger than having a foreign or domestic enemy Muslim named Obama in the White House for 8 years?

NYC Mayors can only run for 2 terms. If he becomes a fixture he would have to run for Congress.

Look at all his NYC mayor predecessors. Zero went anywhere else. It was the end of the road for their polite career. NYC is a polarizing city and success here means nothing to the rest of the country. In fact it's a deterrent to future success.

Conservatives…on the older end… underestimate, completely don’t understand the new context of the age, and the times we are in at their own peril. We are not in Kansas anymore folks. We have people like Ilhan Omar winning re-election and serving committees in Congress. We have transgenders in women’s sports. Times have changed.

And look at what’s become of London and the whole of England now, Paris, huge swaths of France, and Europe…We are in different times. Yesterday’s precedents have no bearing.

Mamdani's voters just want for themselves the same free stuff that the underclass are already getting.

Free buses? The buses are already free to black people.

Free food? Blacks already get free food.

Free housing? Yep, blacks get that too.

Free healthcare? Free college? Yeah, you get the picture.

Mamdani has no executive leadership experience and there is no way that he will be able to run the juggernaught that is New York City. He will be like a "boy king" who effectively inherited the office due to Democrat inertia, but wh has done nothing to prepare himself for it.

There is a larger progressive movement afoot. I posted this on Monday.

Mamdani is a part of the progressive socialist movement to put young mayors into American cities, especially socialists who don't have deep childhood cultural ties to America.

I think it started in Houston with the election of Lina Hidalgo as Harris County Judge (basically the Chief County Administrator). Hidalgo is a naturalized citizen from Colombia (in 2013 at age 22) who had no electoral or executive experience when she ran for, and won, the Harris County Judge position. She's been awful in the role despite winning reelection, but has declined to run for a third term due to mental health issues and loss of confidence within the Houston Democrat party.

After Hidalgo, the progressive movement started promoting young socialists who had county-level or state-level experience. In Chicago, Brandon Johnson ran for a Cook County Commissioner seat in 2018 and won. He won reelection in 2022 and then ran for Chicago Mayor in 2023 and won. Johnson has also been awful for the city of Chicago.

In New York City, the progressive movement is pushing Zohran Mamdani (who became a naturalized citizen from Uganda in 2018 at age 27), who ran for, and won a New York State Assembly seat in 2020, and won reelection in 2022 and 2024. Now, Mamdani is leading the race for Mayor of New York City in 2025.

After Mamdani announced his candidacy, the progressives announced the candidacy of Omar Fateh in Minneapolis. Fateh was born in Washington, DC to immigrants from Somalia. Fateh started his political career in 2015 when he ran for a school board seat in Fairfax County, Virginia and lost. He moved to Minneapolis and in 2018 ran for the Minnesota House of Representatives and again lost. In 2020 Fateh ran for the Minnesota Senate and won. Minnesota has an unusual Senate term where they serve 2 years followed by two four-year terms, and Fateh won the 2-year term. He ran for reelection in 2022 and was reelected to a four year term. He's now running for Mayor of Minneapolis.

In Houston, the failed experiment has resulted in a former Houston mayor and possibly the daughter of Sheila Jackson Lee running for the open Harris County Judge position, which is an abandonment and repudiation of the young, socialist experiment in Houston.

We need a few more of these high-profile socialist failures to hang as albatrosses around the Democrats' collective necks.
