FORT WORTH, Texas — Six-time national sprint car champion Brad Sweet has retired from full-time racing.

Sweet made the announcement during Sunday’s High Limit Racing banquet. The California native, who co-owns High Limit with Kyle Larson, won five consecutive World of Outlaws championships before winning the 2024 High Limit title.

Sweet finished second to Rico Abreu in this year’s High Limit chase and struggled at times throughout the season, including missing some time with a concussion suffered at Eldora Speedway.

It was an emotional Sweet, who addressed the gathering.

“As many of you know, this is going to be harder than I thought, this was my final full time season,” Sweet said choking back the tears. “I’ll get it together. I have a speech that I will get through.

“I don’t know why I am so emotional. I want to say thank you to the fans, they are the heartbeat of this sport. Every time I rolled into a track, the fans remind us so much of why we do this,” the 39-year-old driver said. “Every night at the end of the night, the kids coming up to you, good bad or different, it is why we do it. My wife, she is my rock. She sees the highs, the lows, the long nights, the heartbreak, the championships and the celebrations. You gave me balance and I couldn’t have accomplished this without you.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.

The Sweet family is the owner of High Limit Racing, the sprint car tour run by Brad and his sister Katelyn along with her husband Kyle Larson.

High Limit announced this at the end of the prizegiving banquet in Fort Worth, TX. The next race for the series will be just after Christmas in Perth, Western Australia for what will be one of the series' biggest races, a $70,000 (that's United States Dollars) to win race in December. Sweet will work to wrangle some of the series' top stars to race in the big money race, which serves as a prep race for the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, an Australia Day weekend $40,000 (US Dollars) event that's the country's traditional big race. But the Sweet family's $72,000 to win race in Perth before New Year's Day has surpassed it in Australia's Month of Money, which goes from Christmas Day to Australia Day.

No gasoline allowed, they burn alcohol fuel. No transmission, a direct drive, you have to push start them.

Great video about a sprint car from Australia, where the International Season starts after Thanksgiving.

Brad will promote the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, own the West Coast developmental NARC, and the international High Limit series. He will sell tickets and help racers with fan friendly ideas.

He collects revenue from selling tickets but wants fans buying pit passes. A grandstand ticket doesn’t make revenue the way a pit pass does. He wants fans in the team locker rooms.
