He was one of the true great ones.
When he was young and with Columbia Records, Frank Sinatra would often see Benny Goodman practicing with his clarinet.
“Benny, you’re already so good so why do you spend so much time noodling with that thing?”
“I know I’m good. But I want to become the greatest.”
o my gosh. playing a woodwind is not easy, but so good is Goodman, he makes it look effortless. thanks for the post.

It’s always fun to see the young generation’s reaction, when they discover the quality of yesteryear’s music and musicians.
Coincidentally , speaking of Tokyo , on one of our early dates , my future wife and I went to see The Benny Goodman Story movie with Steve Allen and Donna Reed at an old theater in Tokyo in 1986 .
