I have an advantage over you in that I’ve taken part in mock attacks on navy vessels in F-4s and F-111s. I know, beyond any doubt, that ID is very difficult at 450+ knots and 100’! You cannot see flags, etc. The USS Liberty was a mistake - one that US pilots have made many times.
But you hold Israel to a standard the USA has never reached. Why?

USS Liberty attack went on for two hours, it had two separate flights of fighters, patrol planes, helicopters, and torpedo boats...that’s not an innocent Blue on Blue.
Admiral Thomas Moorer said the Israelis were jamming US Frequencies during the attack and that Johnson covered up that it was deliberate.
