A 9-year-old Arizona boy is being feted as a hero after he saved a small kitten that was being tossed around by a group of older kids “like he was a football.”
Zayin Berry ran toward the group at a Somerton, Ariz. skate park and offered his prized skateboard in exchange for the terrified animal.
Berry’s quick-thinking saved the kitten’s life and later earned him national recognition as the ASPCA’s “Kid of the Year” for 2025.

What a great kid-and good parents, too-teaching him to respect and be kind to God’s creatures...
Kids that do things like that need to be required to wear some kind of alert so that other kids’ parents will know not to leave him/her alone with their kids or pets...
I have rescued so many little kitties...very hard to not feed a very hungry kitty whose mom either neglected the kitty or was killed by predators(human and animal).
Be warned...I went with my heart and soon was giving away 6-10 kitties to verified decent families a year ...cannot do that anymore...if kitties are females and are not fixed and start roaming when in heat, you will have 4-10 kitties within a year. They will outproduce your ability to support them ..I still love’um....
It’s good when the Cat Distribution System works as intended.
A good maple Louisville Slugger can cure animal abusers.
Aluminum works good too if you can’t afford the maple.
Too late-I’ve been rescuing, sheltering and finding loving homes for cats for many years now. We have a very good low cost spay/neuter service here-but this is a rural area and Summer people who book the air B&Bs on the river think nothing of leaving unwanted pets behind at the end of the season. I just found a loving home for a beautiful smoke gray cat and her 2 gray kittens last week-and there are still several more adults here that need a new home.
All my 4 indoor cats-including Lilith are rescues-I’ve never gotten a cat anywhere other than a shelter or rescued it myself...
What a wonderful little boy. I’d be so proud if I were his mom.
As for the rotten little demons who threw and kicked the cat, they’ll probably grow up to be serial killers.
Totally agree
I really think I would use one if I had it in my hand and saw someone kicking a dog or cat, animal abusers drive me absolutely nuts.
Where can I send money to buy this boy a kick ass skateboard?
When are they going to execute the little bastards for cruelty to the kitten?
They will move on to torturing people. There is no hope for them. The hamas treatment would be best. If I had a kid that did that I would throw him onto the streets.
I see the young man has been taken care of as well as Peaches.
My little Elliott lost an eye in a fight. He does OK and he still has a beautiful gray green eye and is very handsome.
I was not a cat person until, out of pity, I fed, tamed, and took in took in a near feral black and white stray cat that was living in the yard. He is now a happy, content, mostly indoor cat and spends his time near me, sleeping on my bed, or angling for treats before he will eat his meals of premium cat food. Well, I guess I am a cat person now.
(It’s about cruelty to Gods creatures)
Proverbs 12:10

but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

I asked a [Cuban-refugee] friend who operated a car repair shop, “Why is that cat holding its narrow tail straight-out?”
He replied, “Humberto soaked its tail in gasoline and set it on fire.”
Later, my friend sent me a photo printout of Humberto listed as an arrested pedophile.
“They’re not sending their best.”
Cuban emigres whom I know describe the current Cuban populace as morally degraded by the decades of communist rule. Your account of the cat abused by a Cuban born pedophile is evidence of that.
Same.
I’ve done some crazy-stupid things in my life because of such incidents already.
/has a bat in the car because you just never know when you’ll run into a pickup ball game
😜
“Aluminum works good too if you can’t afford the maple”
black iron pipe is efficient and cost effective.
True but I can’t justify “accidentally” having that in my car.
I have an Ash Louisville Slugger propped between the front seats with the Goodwill price sticker still on it and old softball somewhere on the backseat.
“Oh! I bought that the other day and I guess I forgot to take it out!”
(Plausible deniability is A Good Thing)
😊
Yup. Tossing around a kitten? I see prison time in their futures.
FWIW, my dad was a prison guard and taught me many ways to use whatever was at hand.
You’d be amazed by the creativity of convicts and seemingly harmless things.
