A 9-year-old Arizona boy is being feted as a hero after he saved a small kitten that was being tossed around by a group of older kids “like he was a football.”
Zayin Berry ran toward the group at a Somerton, Ariz. skate park and offered his prized skateboard in exchange for the terrified animal.
Berry’s quick-thinking saved the kitten’s life and later earned him national recognition as the ASPCA’s “Kid of the Year” for 2025.

Good kid.
Every one of them are heading down a bad path.
He’s lucky they didn’t beat him over the head with the skateboard.
Yep.
What a wonderful little boy. I’d be so proud if I were his mom.
As for the rotten little demons who threw and kicked the cat, they’ll probably grow up to be serial killers.
When I read stories like this, I would remind Tasha, my little calico cat, that she was fortunate to have lived her entire life being cared for by people who loved her. She passed away at 18 on Election Day, 2016.
Good kid. It’s nice to hear about somebody doing something good in the world while there is so much bad going on. And it’s too bad some people can’t stop being bitter, cynical and negative even for a minute to acknowledge something good. They must live in a pickle jar.
Yes, a good kid.. I bet someone will buy him a new skateboard!
He deserves it.
What is nice is that being good, or being nice means doing something, not just being quiet and harmless and passive, this kid jumped into the mix and figured out a way to do what was the right thing to do.
I am a kitty lover, but his has nothing to do with cats. Its about cruelty to Gods creatures.
Yes. He used his brain to save a defenseless animal by bartering with the perps.
🐈May every blessing be his! 🙏🥹
Reminds me of these two a-holes. I never forget cases of animal abuse, it drives me crazy.......

We just had a tiny little tuxedo manx show up at our front door on Friday. She’s maybe 2 months old. It was our lucky day and looking forward to all the years we will get to be with her
“Every one of them are heading down a bad path.”
That’s for sure. There has been numerous studies showing that many children who abuse animals end up being psycho murderers or serial abusers as adults.
That kid deserves a medal. I bet he made his parents proud.
We had a cat come up to our door. My wife and kids wanted to keep it but I told them they needed to post signs for a lost cat.
Out and about the next day I saw all of the flyers were gone. One of the kids fessed up. “We put them all out yesterday like you said. But this morning we took them all down.”
She was a good cat!
Early last January, my 19 year old Tabby, Lucia died peacefully in her sleep and I missed her-so did my other 3 cats. About a week later, a tiny black kitten found her way to the deck, yelling for food and attention. She was about 4 weeks old-too little to be alone-I was feeding her wet food mixed with kitten formula, planning to find her a home in a few weeks with someone who would love and spoil her, but my other tabby Tertia decided to be her foster mom. So the kitten is still here, 10 months old now, loved and named Lilith. Sometimes things happen for a reason...
Hats off to the kid who saved the kitten.
What has happened to the abusers? They’ll torment other pets they can catch, then move on to humans. They need to be apprehended and punished.
