As an expatriate with a (hard won) work permit in Europe my wife certainly did not qualify to work legally. And if she'd done anything for pay and was caught she'd have been deported in an instant.

That is how the rest of the world used to operate. And still does, unless you are from a former colony or arrived in a dinghy.

Interesting that our work for wives rules with H1B are more sex neutral than those of Europe. Guess Obama’s wife may have had some influence, and perhaps women of Supreme Court are of the same mind. Perhaps some kind of rule that companies hiring foreign workers have to pay same wages for same skill levels would shift hiring decisions toward employing American workers. On the other hand we might need to make changes in our higher education institutions (including high school) to create an adequate US labor pool.

Saw interesting confusion last night on late night TV comedy shows. Apparently Trump said the $100k change was only for new hires, but the man in charge of the Admin. office for this issue was shown saying new hires would also have to pay. Is this a late night tweets problem? What is the actual rule?
