What Happens After Near-Death Experiences: Study Reveals A Dark Aftermath From Seeing The Light
Study Finds ^ | Oct. 13, 2025 | Steve Fink

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Sarah’s heart stopped for three minutes during surgery. When she came back, everything felt different, just not in the way anyone expected. She returned from what felt like unconditional love, only to find she could not connect with her own husband. The trivial concerns of daily life felt meaningless. Her marriage ended within two years.

Sarah isn’t alone. A new University of Virginia study finds that near-death experiences often bring deep spiritual shifts and can reduce fear of death. They can also strain the closest relationships and leave experiencers feeling isolated in a world that suddenly feels hard to relate to.

Published in Psychology of Consciousness: Theory, Research, and Practice, the research surveyed 167 people who had near-death experiences. These are episodes reported by people close to death that can include leaving the body, meeting deceased loved ones, or feeling overwhelming peace. Prior work suggests that roughly one in six critically ill patients report such experiences, so they are not rare.

From the article: The trivial concerns of daily life felt meaningless.

This often happens with people who survive a natural disaster, or lose their possessions in a fire or flood.

The lesson is to not wait until your heart stops to get to a state of mind where the trivial concerns are just that - trivial. Work toward it starting now.

I had a colonoscopy last Friday and woke from the anesthesia to watch most of it on the tv screen. Watching your guts on the big screen is a near-death experience.

God decides when you are dead.

I read the article and it was meh.. Too much on the reaction to those experiences. You would think those nirvana experiences would be described more than the afterwards. Perhaps there’s no explanation one can get a handle on-nothing to grab.

Perhaps that’s why “The Twilight Zone” was so popular.

Losing the fear of death would absolutely and fundamentally change one’s perspective on everything.

lazarus died twice that we know of.
Paul the apostle said “I die daily”.
Jesus said “whoever believes in me will NEVER die”

we see the biblical video of saints in heaven with Christ and the Father, who though with God are present, are fully in knowledge of what is going on in the Earth. (Revelation of Jesus Christ)

Mankind is appointed to death and judgement... once.
those in Christ are already dead, and risen and forever seated with him in heavenly places.

Elijah’s bones raised a man from the dead after his ‘passing’

” For you are dead: and your life is hid with Christ in God.
When Christ shall appear, who is your life, then you also shall appear with him in glory.” Col 3:3-4

“He who liveth and believeth in me will never die” according to Jesus Christ.

Clearly death is not exactly what we think it is.

My uncle had a near death experience on the operating table, but it didn’t change anything with him but to give him extra stories to tell people.

Kinda like the Last woman, I had a relationship with. I died afterwards. Got through it now I look at women, relationships, relationships in general, totally different. I’ll never be the same.

I would then question if the NDE was of God.

[[Agree. Also why “near-death” experience is a good name for this phenomenon. While I don’t buy into it]]

My personal feeling, having gone through it, is that something happens ‘near death’ where the brain goes into survival mode, and synapses misfire, causing hallucinations-

What i experienced was not biblical at all- therefore it was not a true experience ‘in hell’ but wow was it vivid and seemingly real- I had a really high fever from peritonitis- and went into convulsions- thankfully i was in hospital, and docs got right on it and were able to brign fever down quickly and bring me back to consciousness- but while i was out- it was hell- frightening experience- but again, My beleif is that it was misfiring synapses- due to high fever and ‘near death’

This is not related to the experience I mentioned earlier. But (no pun intended)

I sorta woke up about halfway through one of those. My thoughts:
1. There are way too many people in here.
2. Pressure in that area.
3.(seeing the screen) Hey, that's kinda cool. The insides of my insides.

Then I finally fell back asleep.

I have no fear of death. I’m not inviting it, but when it gets here, it will be okay.

I do believe you can cross over. But if it is not time yet, you have to go back. At least that is what I was told when it happened to me.

I was alone and deathly ill. The pain in my chest was excruciating. I could not get a breath. I collapsed on my bed.

Where I ended up is still etched in my mind. I asked 3 questions, where am I, what is this, what happened, and was told each time by whatever that had a hold of me from behind, that it is not time yet, you have to go back.

The final question was, who are you as I tried to look over my shoulder, and when they said they were a angel of light and ruler over darkness I gasped and was back in my bed.

My illness was gone, yet I was so frightened by the experience that it changed my whole life.

A year later I was sick again and finally had health insurance from the new job I had started. The doctor after seeing my chest xray said I had a black spot on my lung from a previous severe infection, and then I told him what happened and he said not to worry, I will be good as new with the treatment he was going to give.

The APA is notoriously run by idiots. Keep in mind this is the group that legitimized all this transgender crap.
