These acts of espionage damage the “close relationship,” best defined by Israel putting the touch on US taxpayers for billions of tax dollars......and has been met with concern from US officials, despite the usual “official denials” from Israel when caught with its pants down.

1970s-present — constant SIGNAT monitoring of Israeli officials. Many CIA listening devices located over the years, Hebrew linguists exposed.
Operation Sphinx: US Spy Ring in Israel (1982–1985) In the early 1980s, the US CIA operated a covert network of Israeli informants to gather intelligence on Israel’s military capabilities and political decisions, particularly during the Lebanon War.
