RECOGNIZING NEW MLB CHAMPIONS, JUST FOR FUN
Vanity

Posted on 10/13/2025 10:29:51 AM PDT by Hebrews 11:6

With two of the four remaining playoff-contenders, the Milwaukee Brewers and Seattle Mariners, being among the five teams (Padres/Rays/Rockies) which still have never won a World Serious, I thought a quick look-back is in order at all the recent first-time champions, including three of the most recent eight years:
2023 TEXAS RANGERS
2019 WASHINGTON NATIONALS (nee MONTREAL EXPOS)
2017 HOUSTON ASTROS
2002 ANAHEIM ANGELS
2001 ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
1997 FLORIDA MARLINS
1992 TORONTO BLUE JAYS
1980 PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES *
1985 KANSAS CITY ROYALS
1969 NEW YORK METS
1966 BALTIMORE ORIOLES (nee ST. LOUIS BROWNS) *
1955 BROOKLYN DODGERS *

* ‎The Dodgers, Orioles and finally the Phillies were the last of the original sixteen franchises to win it all--all the others listed above were expansion clubs begun in 1961 or later. After the Dodgers, the next most recent were the 1935 Tigers (Ty Cobb was never a world champion), 1926 Cardinals, 1924 Senators, 1923 Yankees (watch out for these guys!), 1920 Indians, 1919 Reds, 1914 Braves (the "Miracle Braves"), 1910 Athletics, 1909 Pirates, 1907 Cubs (the winningest team ever), 1906 White Sox (the "Hitless Wonders"), 1905 Giants, and 1903 Red Sox.

Several teams have appeared in so many World Series that they have impeded other clubs:
YANKEES 41
DODGERS 22
GIANTS 20
CARDINALS 19
ATHLETICS 14
RED SOX 13

However, in the past decade all but the Dodgers are spinning their wheels, allowing teams who have never won to step up to the plate.

At least you had the Milwaukee Braves bring home the championship twice.

Go Brewers. Make the Pittsburgh Pirates jagoff, inbred looking owner look like an even bigger fool when he cries poor and acts like small market teams cannot win due to “baseball economics”.

Plus, I’ve liked the Brewers since their AL days :-).

Oh, OK.

The Giants came into my world when they moved to SF in 1958 when I was 10 years old. Watched Willie Mays in the old Seals Stadium before they moved to horrific Candlestick Park with its relentless hurricane-like winds. (The park and location was a political boondoggle. They made up for it with Oracle park, “The Tiffany Diamond of Baseball Parks”.)

It was 52 years after they arrived in SF before they won the World Series. For me, that felt like their first World Series.

Bieber gave them respect!

The Blue Jays missed a chance to be the only team besides the Yankees and Athletics to win the World Series three years in a row, because of the players’ strike in 1994.

It’s too bad baseball committed suicide five years ago.

First time ever American League Championship Series is being played completely outside of America!

It took me a minute, to see what you did there.

Nice job.

You forgot one: Milwaukee Brewers née Seattle Pilots.

And Anaheim Angels were originally Los Angeles Angels and are now.

If the Tigers only could score more than two runs, they would win the World Series, easily.

After watching The Yankees barely beat Boston, they only need a new manager, GM, Bullpen, Left fielder, Center fielder, and a couple of starting pitchers.

How can the Yanks be expected to win with a measly (#3) $300 million payroll?

Imagine having Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer and David Price in a best of 5...and getting swept.

Tigers...2014

originally Los Angeles Angels

Before my Dodgers became my Dodgers (that's a different story) and moved out here to LA (Gil Hodges moved into a house in NE Long Beach two blocks from us), the original Los Angeles Angels, the Pacific Coast League variety featuring Steve Bilko at 1B and Sparky Anderson at 2B, played at 42nd & Avalon at Wrigley Field and were my first team.
