Many experts are forecasting the end of a key provision of election law — enabling Republicans to shore up their advantage in the House, according to a new report.
Democratic voting rights groups are preparing for a nightmare scenario if the Supreme Court guts a key part of the landmark civil rights-era legislation, the Voting Rights Act — a very real possibility this term.
Ahead of the court’s Oct. 15 rehearing of Louisiana v. Callais — a case that has major implications for the VRA — two voting rights groups are sounding the alarm, warning that eliminating Section 2, a provision that prohibits racial gerrymandering when it dilutes minority voting power, would let Republicans redraw up to 19 House seats to favor the party and crush minority representation in Congress.

There should not be gerrymanding nor counting of non-citizens.
And the state legislatures.
More reason to riot. Gonna be awesome. Where’s Mayor Daly when you need him? Or Bernie Goetz?
Republican Senator Kennedy was on a talk show and very funny comments. “My momma didn’t raise no fool, but if she did, it was one of my brothers”. “The Senate is like high school, but no one graduates”. He has a lot of comments about Democrats. Well worth watching.

What evidence doth Politico possess indicating this prospect? Last I checked, Republicans were seeking to enlist minorities disaffected with the way Democrats have ruined their families and seeking a better life in business.
This would literally push democrats over the edge. Things would get ugly for them...

Just another major reason for the Dems not voting to end the current shutdown situation. The Democrat Party is dead in the water and the Party knows it so they have determined they have nothing to lose but to go for broke on this shutdown. Trump and Johnson need to explore if there are any legal alternatives to this self-imposed Congressional created shutdown. How much of this is Constitutionally mandated and how much is just Congressional custom or practice that can perhaps be changed by a simple majority vote?
Guess newScum is gonna have to come up with another plan
Senator Kennedy is our generation’s Will Rogers...
voting and districting should not be racist or racially determined.
eliminate the consideration of race
Hakeem Jeffries was just EMBARRASSED for holding the government hostage...holy smokes. This was bad.
Joe Kernen: “There was an ELECTION. Republicans were able to pass the Big Beautiful Bill. To then say, ‘We don’t like that, so we’re gonna shut down the government until you take back ALL the things you duly passed!’”
“If the GOP did that to the Inflation Reduction Act, or any of the Biden acts, shut down the government because we don’t like it, not pay military, not allow the government to open until YOU DO WHAT WE WANT, after an election when the American people put Democrats in power - you’d be GOING CRAZY!”
“It’s not how it works. It’s bad, it’s bad precedent. And you’re talking h about the House? You’ve already passed this. The Senate has a bill to reopen the government right now with 5 more Democrats.”
“An even playing field is unfair.” — Democrats
“minority voting power” — that whole concept really pisses me off. We are a color-blind society. I couldn’t care less about the color of the skin, sex or any other surface characteristic as long as the person cares about saving the Republic, freedom, liberty, free markets and conservative causes.
The notion that people of other races, creeds, colors, etc cannot fairly represent you is anathema to the very concept of the USA and the Declaration of Independence.
Jiggering voting districts to get somebody “who looks like me” into Congress just because that person will “vote for my people’s interests” is repugnant and repellent.
Either American citizens are American citizens or not...
It is the only group of humans that the Constitution was written for...
There are no other relevant groups!
Classes like “minorities”, “handicapped”, “LGPTWNSGFAX”, “football fans”, etc, have no Constitutional standing that grants them extra privileges in this country...
VRA Section 2 ‘prohibits racial gerrymandering’ by… requiring racial gerrymandering.
CA votes ~40% for the GOP candidate in POTUS elections. Yet, due to CRA Sec 2 requirements to protect racial/ethnic power, the CA delegation resulting from the ‘independent citizen commission’ is 43-9 D-R. I’m betting the voter-approved commission is tossed if S2 VRA is thrown out. No way they’d allow CA to lose a dozen D seats.
Don’t count your Supreme Court decisions before they are written !
The last thing this country needs is 19 more RINOs. This milquetoast uniparty coalition at both the state/fed levels over the past few decades is what has brought this country to its knees in the first place. Trust state legislatures at your own endangerment to the drawing of districts, however the great news is that of getting the uber-no trust Feds out of it.
Perhaps we can get the Article V Convention (Convention of States) going and rip a couple nasty Amendments out, I’d start with the 17th A. And of course a balanced budget and a debt limit something this country needs desperately.
Exactly, leaning right-of-center/conservative is not a skin color or chromosome association. Although we have an electoral system that is quite effective it would be real nice to give a hard slap to state legislatures and state voters also who draw these districts in the first place.
