I’ve met Sicilians who said “there is no Mafia”...
I think, the story is that some daughter of somebody got killed and they fought back, sort of Sicilian Hatfields and McCoys story.
Mafia stands for Ma Fia = My Daughter.
But that was long time ago, even before the Hatfields, no Mafia exists since!😊
