I don’t trust plumbers, roofers, bankers or lawyers either. Why people assume a doctor’s motives would be altruistic is beyond me. They are out to make a living like anyone else.
Nobody makes money by telling customers they don’t need their services. Doctors are no different.
Now, it’s true that fifty years ago there existed town doctors who would not overprescribe just to make money. They faced little or no competition, were connected to their communities, and were kept busy and well paid by treating only what was necessary.
Perhaps that is where we got this crazy idea that doctors are altruistic, and not profit motivated like everyone else. But those days are long gone.
Well, people think that because doctors are in a healing profession that requires them to take an oath. Ethical issues are involved for doctors. Plumbers, not so much.
