One of my pet peeves too.
Consider a triangle. The corners are (1) democracy, (2) fascism, and (3) communism.
Adolph Hitler is at the second corner. He looks out and sees democracy and communism and he’s against them.
Joseph Stalin is at the third corner. He looks out and see democracy and fascism and he’s against them.
Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt are at the first corner. They look out and see communism and fascism and they’re against them.
So, are we conservatives like fascists? Yes, if you’re a communist.
Are communists like fascists? Yes, if you’re in the mainstream of the politics of democratic countries.
Who’s right? In one sense, it depends on your perspective.
With regard to history, Dinesh is 100 percent correct.
Hitler and Mussolini were originally communists. Following WWI, they then combined nationalism with socialism to create a third way.
Mussolini’s brand did NOT define nationalism along genetic lines. Instead, he defined nationalism along cultural lines. Jews were perfectly welcome to his party. Africans also in the Italian colony of Libya.
Hitler’s brand define nationalism specifically along genetic lines.
In our country, the parallels would be Woodrow Wilson, the racist, and Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy famously said there shouldn’t be any hyphenated Americans. Not this or that immigrant American. Not “native-born” Americans. Not minority Americans. America, he said, is of the mind and of the soul. Not a bloodline.
You look at our people nowadays, whether in the Republican Party or the MAGA wing of the Republican Party; or, whether the Conservative Party or the Reform Party of the United Kingdom, and what defines us is our belief in freedom and self-responsibility.
Right wing = European politics
Limited government = American conservatism
There is no such thing as a free market, capitalist, limited government fascist or Nazi.
It’s worn out, a lie and ignorant
mine too.
consider using the spectrum of anarchy on the right and totalitarianism on the left.
totalitarianism-——————————————— anarchy
total control no control
fascism is to the left of conservatism or just enough government to protect individual rights.
