I was just thinking what a nightmare that must have been for her.
I used to meet Teddy regularly when he came to Western MA. He would shoot some interview shows in a studio attached to my office. So we had to go to the lobby and meet his fat ass every six weeks or so.
There wasn’t a time when I met him that he didn’t look hung over.
My reading suggests that was pretty much SOP for him

My Dad used to travel a lot to the western US. Sometimes he couldn’t get a decent flight out to be back east for Friday night and had to wait until Saturday.
On this particular trip, from Phoenix, he had to wait until early Sunday morning for the flight. He arrived early at the terminal....maybe 630-700 am and sat down and waited for his 8 o’clock flight. He was seated in an area before you headed down the concourse to the gates.
As he was waiting, he noticed these three men walking from the gates up the concourse. They were walking very close together, which he found odd. As they got closer, he noticed the two guys on the outside of the three were holding up the dude in the middle as he was having trouble walking.
Then they got close enough, and my Dad recognized Kennedy as the guy in the middle, and he was completely shit-faced before 8 in the morning.
When they got up and left he litterally waddled. They they got into their dingy and took it back out to their sailboat. The dingy listed to the side he was sitting on. He was a big fat ugly person.
I’ve always thought that the senator in the comic strip “Shoe” was meant to be a caricature of Teddy Kennedy.
