Battery could be seriously damaged internally as a result of a collision without showing any visible external damage. This is probably true with automotive starting batteries, they can also freeze when partially discharged, and do bad, bad things many months later.
My “import” was assembled in my state and has more than 60% U.S. content. That’s better than many “domestic” models.

I will never have that problem, for I will never buy an EV.
My favorite vehicle is our 1997 Silverado. GM no longer supports it, but just about any part can be bought locally to keep it going. And the parts are dirt cheap.
And I can still find parts to keep our 1952 Dodge running.
The Silverado is 28 years old, will the EV’s still be on the road after 28 years?
