DENVER (KDVR) — Head coach Deion Sanders apologized on behalf of the University of Colorado Boulder and the athletic department after fans made derogatory statements during the game against Brigham Young University on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Sanders held a weekly press conference ahead of the CU Buffs’ next game on Saturday. After talking about the team’s performance, Sanders unpromptly mentioned an incident at the end of the game at Folsom Field after BYU scarcely pulled out a win.
“On behalf of CU, on behalf of our athletic department, we would like to apologize to our opponents from a week ago for whatever derogatory statements were made by our fans. That’s not indicative of who we are, our student body, our kids are phenomenal. So don’t indict us, just based on a group of young kids that probably was intoxicated and high simultaneously,” said Sanders.
This comes after the chancellor and athletic director released a statement on some fans’ behavior during the home game, condemning expletives and religious slurs.
A university spokesperson told FOX31 that CU Athletics is reviewing procedures and working with campus stakeholders to address these issues in real time, and hopes to have new procedures ready for the Iowa State game on Oct. 11.
“BYU, we love you, we appreciate and we support you,” said Sanders.
Bunch of potheads.
Apparently they were yelling “F*ck the Mormons.” Rude, insulting and obscene.
Perhaps next time they should just yell “F*ck Trump” and they’d be OK, since you also apparently can wear a sweatshirt with that on an airplane flight.
You can’t apologize for others
As a CU alum, I’d apologize for Sanders except I had nothing to do with hiring him or his kid... and what you wrote.
So, Sanders does the right, even classy thing here, and I see (some people commenting below and elsewhere) a (thankfully few) haters just have to show their rears.
I’m no big fan of Sanders - I’m pretty ambivalent, really - but, hating on people when they do something good sure isn’t going to lead to a better culture / society. :-(
