The UK has public order laws against causing “distress”. What the heck does “distress” mean?

It means whatever the authorities want it to mean. So if you post a rude comment online about a politician, you are causing him distress. Expect a visit from the local constabulary.

It is harder for them if you talk about well known public figures. You’ll notice I am careful here as lesser known figures might invite that sort of intervention
