For Tony Blair, Gaza is the future

To understand how Tony Blair, who resigned from the House of Commons 18 years ago, is about to become part of the “Board of Peace” set to take control of the Gaza Strip, it’s worth paying attention to a German physicist born in 1858. Max Planck won the Nobel Prize aged 60. But while his scientific work laid the foundation for quantum theory, he is most widely known for an aphorism. “Planck’s Principle” casts doubt on the idea that progress results from individuals changing their mind. Instead, Planck claimed, the old, mistaken notions pass away as new generations emerge, familiar with ideas that were once heresies, and therefore at ease with accepting them. “It rarely happens that Saul becomes Paul,” as Planck put it. This argument has since been paraphrased as science progressing “one funeral at a time”.

The notion that orthodoxies only shift when people die may be morbid, but that doesn’t make it untrue. And it applies to politics too. In a society where the old will soon outnumber the young, and where the wealthy can expect to reach their nineties, Planck’s Principle starts to feel different. How can novel ideas emerge, and new figures grab the spotlight, if the old ones endure for far longer than before?

That is partly how one can make sense of the rejuvenated figure of Tony Blair. At 72 the former prime minister is suddenly ubiquitous. That is primarily because he leads the country’s most powerful thinktank: the Tony Blair Institute. With an annual turnover of more than $150 million, and over a thousand staff across the globe, the TBI is vastly bigger than previously dominant policy shops like the IPPR or Policy Exchange.

Tony Blair is back in fashion and power: His hated ID cards are being introduced despite widespread resistance in the UK and he's going to apparently run Gaza and the reconstruction. (fat contracts... )

He is a globalist through and through.

I'd like to canvas opinion on FR of what you all think of this has-been making a come back!?

As I have indicated before, it is not that important how we at FR sees it, but it will be very important for Tony Blair if the terrorists in the Middle East accepts him or not.

‘nough said.

The HAMAS terror group, the PLO terror group, the Islamic Jihad terror group, the Hezbollah terror group and the hate-filled Gazans who supported HAMAS’ attack on October 7, 2023 all think Tony Blair, all European leaders and all US State Dept. employees are nothing but ignorant “suckers” to be played the fool for.

None of them will put down their guns but they will play or pretend to want to pursue “peace” while rearming, restocking and reorganizing for the next attack.

I agree with you. I should add that the reason the Islamic terrorists think the various Western politicians and administrators are suckers is because they have all shown themselves to be suckers.

However, Tony Blair will have President Trump looking over his shoulder, and that may force him to be more effective. His problem is that I think he will have less vigilant protection than PDJT (and that hasn’t shown to be too efficient either!).

Anyway, this depends on whether Hamas accepts the deal or not. Islamic Jihad and DFLP have already declined. That will make it harder for Hamas to accept the deal, since it is important for them to be leading the “resistance”. Apparently they will take a few days to think it over.

The main fallacy here is that Western leaders ASSUME that the Arabs want peace.

The do want what they call a “Hudna” or temporary cessation of hostilities because they are, at the present time, at a disadvantage.

The “Hudna” in English means a ceasefire so diplomacy can take over. In Islamic Arabic it means sue for a ceasefire now, and when you can sucker-punch the enemy in the future, do it.

For now say peace, peace, peace but stock up for your next assault. This is how the Arab mind works and the likes of Tony Blair STILL do not have a clue!

Tony Blair is the British Bill Clinton, only smarmier.

I think you were correct to say on another thread that Trump's selection of Blair to oversee Gaza was due to the malign influence of Jared Kushner and his socialite wife. Just because the Kushners are no longer official members of the White House cabinet doesn't mean that they aren't pulling strings behind the scenes. They were by far the most malign influence during Trump's first term, having them behind the scenes is just as bad.
