Paso Robles community members are urging the school district to fire an employee who reportedly posted controversial statements to social media after the death of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
But the school district said terminating the coach’s contract could violate her First Amendment rights.
Paso Robles High School assistant basketball coach Netta Perkins’ alleged social media posts gained attention in the aftermath of Kirk’s death. Screenshots were posted on social media and were further shared by Cal Coast News in a Sept. 22 article.
According to the screenshots shared on social media, Perkins allegedly wrote, “God does not like ugly! Charlie Kirk reap wat u sow!” and “White on white crime let them sit in it!”

OK, free speech, whatever. But wouldn’t a “morality clause” kick in?
Yo coach so fat she have to weigh herself on the Richter scale.
I beg to differ with the school. The US Supreme Court has ruled that government employee speech isn’t necessarily protected. The court developed The Pickering–Connick test, which balances a public employee’s free speech rights against the government’s need for efficient operations.
1. Public Concern (Connick): Speech is only protected if it addresses a matter of public concern (e.g., corruption, policy, misuse of funds). Purely personal workplace gripes are not protected.
2. Balancing (Pickering): If it is public concern, courts weigh the employee’s right to speak as a citizen against the employer’s interest in maintaining discipline, harmony, and effective service.
Bottom line: Protected if the public value of the speech outweighs workplace disruption. Not protected if it’s just a personal complaint or if it seriously undermines the employer’s mission.
And yes, the Connick in the case is Harry Connick, Sr. Father to the famous singer. Jr’s dad was DA in New Orleans Parrish back in the 70s.
I wish my driver’s training instructor would have been arrested!
When we had behind-the-wheel training, it was me, him, and two boys from the class. He would sing little ditties about being with me driving up the mountainside. I was absolutely mortified. I don’t know how the boys handled that. It was also the case that if a pretty girl was in his class, she would get an “A.” But a boy, no matter how much effort he put in, would get no more than a “C.” I got an A. Probably undeserved.
Right... as if anyone cares about how dark or light her skin is. Someone’s appearance is NOT more important than who they are as a person!

> So, it’s either that or condone a school employee who supports school shootings.<
Therin lies the key to her downfall. It must be publicly stated over and over until it sinks in.
Netta Perkins supports school shootings. Prove me wrong.
