OREM, Utah (KSL) – Students from a school in Utah are traumatized after a classmate brought a gun on a field trip and shot themselves in front of others.
Police said the ninth grader from Canyon View Junior High shot themselves while on a field trip at South Fork Park.
That student was flown to a local hospital, where they died.
KSL does not normally report on suicides, but because the student brought a gun to school and fired it in front of other students, it brings it to another level.
A group of ninth grade students put up a memorial outside the school in memory of the student who died.
They didn’t want to talk on camera, but said they heard the gunshot, which shocked and scared everyone.
Further information was not released.

Mormons? They did give the world Mitt Romney.
Sometimes “they” is used as a neutral term even for one person if the gender isn’t known. It seems less awkward than “he or she” and “it” certainly is out of the question.
Jeremy, was that you?
Not just that. "The ninth grader" is singular. "shot themselves" is plural. Oh how I miss the days when English was the language spoken in this country.
More frightening and depressing still is that so many people don't regard the bastardization of what used to be the language of the United States as any big deal.
Apparently they/them/we
Tragic.
Its the gift of libsocs. Liberal socialists.
at first i thought it was a mistake- bad engrish, but then thought that the writer was being cheeky and indicating the student had more than 1 pronoun- hope that’s not the case though- don’t wanna see that stupid trend in writing
First thought...sadness. Second thought...what meds was the family doc giving the kid?
They?? I thought Utah was conservative.
“They” is plural.
Bttt
Gads! Sounds like there were a bunch of them!
“shot themselves”
.
ALL of them?
:-/
if the gender is not known,
it is more appropriate to write “a student” and “the student”
“they, them” is plural causing readers to think it is another genderfluiddemonoccupiedantifawhackjob
instead of a lost and grieving child
I'm 76, and only recently has this been done. Gender neutral was "he" for a very long time.
According to a local fox station it was a boy:
“The Canyon View Junior High School ninth-grade student died after shooting himself with a loaded gun while on the class field trip to South Fork Park in Provo Canyon.”
Name not yet released.
Maxwell Jordan Miller, 14, of Orem, Utah, I think.
