The Trump administration signaled a dramatic shift in its approach to the Ukraine conflict Wednesday, with Vice President JD Vance warning that President Donald Trump is "growing incredibly impatient" with Moscow after diplomatic efforts to end the war have faltered.

"He doesn't feel like they're putting enough on the table to end the war," Vance said during remarks in North Carolina, referring to Russian negotiating positions. "If the Russians refuse to negotiate in good faith, I think it's going to be very, very bad for their country."

Secretary of State Marco Rubio reinforced the administration's hardening position during a tense encounter with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in New York on Wednesday. Rubio called for the "killing to stop" and demanded Moscow "take meaningful steps toward a durable resolution," according to diplomatic sources.

There is a certain amount of political theater in all this. Your observation above is not.
We and Europe continue the political dance to one tune and the business cha-cha to a different tune.

The US and Europe are still doing billions of dollars’ worth of business with Russia despite years of war CNN, 14 August 2025.
"The Russian Federation retains dominant market positions in several strategic categories. It supplies: 83.85% of U.S. imports of phosphatic fertilizer mixes; 49.58% of urea-ammonium nitrate fertilizers; 45.34% of unwrought palladium; 44.67% of buckwheat,"

"When examining the top US imports from Russia, several key products stand out as significant contributors to the trade relationship between the two countries. As per Russia customs export data for 2024, among the biggest products that the US imports from Russia are fertilizers, metals and minerals such as iron, steel, and precious metals, as well as coal. These imports play a vital role in various industries across the United States and underscore the interdependence of the global economy. "

And more than just minerals. Most of this info is obscured by the political theater noise, and I suspect President Trump has presented some of the noise-makers in Europe and the media with an interesting conundrum. At the UN, he said:According to three trading sources speaking to Reuters and shipping data reviewed once again by Reuters, Tupras restarted imports in April after Urals crude prices dropped to their lowest levels since 2023—comfortably below the G7 nations' price cap of $60 per barrel.

In the event that Russia is not ready to make a deal to end the war, the United States is fully prepared to impose a very strong round of tariffs, which I believe would stop the bloodshed very quickly. But for those tariffs to be effective, European nations—all of you gathered here right now—would have to join us in adopting the exact same measures. You're much closer to this conflict than we are. Europe has to step it up. They can't continue buying oil and gas from Russia while fighting Russia."Fight -- or find a way to get past this and get back to doing business.....

At least he always looks happy in his work, so he’s got that going for him.
That often seems to be true of well trained, highly competent professionals...

With Trump's Plan A of a negotiated settlement going nowhere, he may turn to Plan B, a Ukrainian victory due to a Russian military collapse. As fight aficionado Trump knows, sometimes the heavier fighter goes down from exhaustion, not because they have been out punched. The tone and nature of the threats to NATO from Russia suggest desperation and that Putin and his allies know that their options are increasingly limited and that the outlook makes Russian victory implausible.

“putting enough on the table to end the war”
Until W Europe/NATO stops financing Putin by buying Russian gas and oil, nothing else on the table matters.
The US, Saudis, etal should be selling to W Europe/NATO.
