Not the first player cut by a skate in the throat. The other one survived, though.
The guy had a dirty reputation. The guy killed was in his late 20’s so he wasn’t going to make it to the NHL. Don’t know how old he is. I am surprised someone signed him. I am further surprised he signed. I suspect he will be receive a lot of cross checks with limited help from teammates.
Pettgrave is 33 now, has little chance for NHL. In baseball, would only be able to play in an independent league.
Seems like a dangerous play for the kicker too to raise his leg that high. Wasn’t trying to kill him, but probably to hurt him.
I was thinking he was pretty old. Generally AHL players are young, or just a few older NHL players rehabbing or helping train the younger players. Not sure what Pettgrave could teach other than a cautionary tail about going overboard on enforcing.
I’d read he’d tried that move before on another player.
